Two Travel Playlists for the Price of Zero

7 Dec

In case you’re not familiar with the time-honored holiday tradition of Mixmas, Matt over at You Ain’t No Picasso asks his favorite musicians to make themed playlists and maybe write a few words. It all happens around Christmas time. That’s why he squished those words together, see?

For this year’s Mixmas, TUS put together a mix called “The Wheels on the Plane Go Up and Down” for your listening pleasure. Best listened to under moving conditions. And then head over to the after party playlist,

the EXTENDED set, at Songza, where they made another playlist called “Please Use Alternate Transport.”

Dirty Impound’s Soundtrack for the Occupy Movement

29 Nov

Dennis Cook is one of our favorite writers for his individual voice, and it’s no surprise to us that his take on protest music is unique. He’s come up with a list of non-traditional protest songs, no Pete Seeger included, and These United States’ “I’m Gonna Assemble A City” is featured! The playlist also includes the Clash, Gang of Four, Drive-by-Truckers, and even Clutch. In summary, it’s BAD ASS music to revolution to.

PSSST! These United States recording 5TH ALBUM as we speak

11 Oct

After recording four albums in three years, it’s back to the grindstone. These United States are recording their FIFTH ALBUM as a band at Shangri-La studios in their semi-hometown of Lexington, where they worked with Duane Lundy once before on Crimes.

One of our favorite writers Matt Jordan, normally of You Ain’t No Picasso fame, interviewed the band for KYForward, and even shot some exclusive pics of them recording. In the interview, they talk about Lexington, the new album, Robby’s power, Justin’s “cheetah power,” and Duane Lundy’s “deep space power” – Check it all out HERE!
